Photographs – Exhibition linked to the geographical Focus on Lebanon

Every two years, in collaboration with Le Court, the Hôtel Fontfreyde – centre photographique showcases a photographer who is a jury member of the Lab Competition at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.

For the 47th edition, the exhibition highlights Lebanese photographer Lara Tabet. Titled Extended Spectrum, the exhibition delves into the depths of reality through polymorphic narratives that blend photography, natural and biomedical sciences, speculative fiction, and autobiography. Positioned at the boundary between the visible and the invisible, certainty and doubt, Lara Tabet’s work examines the underlying forces – both human and non-human – that shape our world. The concept of the spectrum, central to the exhibition, carries multiple meanings: the light spectrum and its colorful wavelengths, the spectrum of gender identities, and 19th-century spirit photography, which sought to capture a hypothetical parallel world.

Through a transdisciplinary approach, the exhibition breaks down traditional knowledge silos, intertwines art and science, and challenges conventional and binary categories, particularly those related to gender. By combining ancient photographic techniques with modern technologies, Lara Tabet reflects on the Anthropocene and sheds light on the invisible relationships that define our era.

Opening: Thursday 6 February at 18:30
Exhibition: 3 February to 29 March / Tuesday to Saturday, 13:30 to 19:00
