Monte le son ! Le film musical s’affiche
Turn it up! Musical film posters on display
Film posters
A spotlight on the musical film and its power to enchant reality! Placing music at the heart of its concept, this versatile genre encompasses a wide range of works: musicals, musician biographies, opera films, ballets, and more.
It is no coincidence that the first sound film was a musical, The Jazz Singer. Music has always held a central place in the sound cinema: in fact, the musical film is the natural format of a medium that successfully integrated sound.
For a film to be considered a musical, there must be moments when the sound/image relationship is reversed. While typically the sound follows the image, here music suddenly takes the lead.
The charm of the genre lies in this temporary role reversal, which gives it all its magic: music sparks the euphoria of the “total spectacle.” It’s an ideal form of escape, with its grand-scale glamour. And the art of the poster reflects this, swirling dancers and elevating singers to idol status.
Through a selection of original posters, promotional photos, books, and magazines, this exhibition invites you to embark on a visual journey through the gems of the genre!

Anatomie du labo 17
Anatomy of the Lab 17
After sixteen years expertly led by Ludovic Chavarot, the Anatomy of the Lab exhibition moves to a new location, taking over Le Lieu-dit, but the direction remains the same. The Lab continues to be a space for art and experimentation, image and sound, and with this exhibition, it adds a graphic dialogue between visual artists and the selected films.
The artists will engage, among other things, with the documentary genre, which once again proves this year that it has gained aesthetic autonomy, becoming a favored tool for exploring values, conflicts, and memory.
Among the participating artists, Lebanese artist Brahim Samaha (creator of the poster for the Lebanese retrospective) will present a work, as will Gabriel Böhmer (United Kingdom), who has been selected multiple times for Clermont (including this year) and will, for the first time, be part of the exhibiting artists.

Yannis Da Silva – Champ contre champ
Yannis Da Silva – Shot Reverse Shot
Photographs
Yanis Da Silva, National Student Juror at the 2024 Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival and president of the Cinéfac association, presents his first short film Petit Paradis. Photographs from the film will be displayed in the Galerie Dolet.
The exhibition opening will be followed by a screening of the short film at 20:00 in the Frères-Lumière theater, preceded by a feature film presented in partnership with Cinéfac.
The Field: Portraits of homeless people in Clermont-Ferrand. The faces, with their weathered features, bear witness to the harsh realities of daily life on the streets.
The Countershot: Candid photos of passersby.
Sometimes pleasant, often disdainful, but mostly indifferent to the condition of those living just nearby. This exhibition, much like the short film from which it partly originates, seeks to capture the uniqueness of this exchange of gazes while aiming to give a voice to those whom we too often ignore.

Studio Cabriole x PAR.SEK – Comment les images mentent
Studio Cabriole x PAR.SEK – How Images Lie
Behind the Scenes of an Animated Music Video
Dive into the sparkling and inventive world of the music video “How People Lie”, created by Studio Cabriole (featured in the Decibels! selection), a duo of Clermont-Ferrand-based directors. This exhibition invites you to discover the many facets of this pop and colorful project, featuring hybrid techniques that blend video, 2D animation, and paper-crafted sets.
Driven by Studio Cabriole‘s offbeat visual universe and the raw energy of the electropunk band PAR.SEK, the video humorously and lightly portrays the small lies of daily life through a playful and striking aesthetic.
Visitors will be able to admire the meticulously crafted paper models used as sets for the film, life-size paper props used during the shoot, and exclusive behind-the-scenes images revealing the green screen filming process with the band members. The exhibition will also offer a look into the pre-production stages: character and set graphic research, storyboards, and more. A journey into a universe where craftsmanship and experimentation meet to bring vibrant, surprising images to life!
The opening will be followed by a live performance by PAR.SEK!

L’Économie du désir
The Economy of Desire
Visual Arts
The exhibition The Economy of Desire brings together around twenty artists, including Ismaël Joffroy Chandoutis with his film Ondes noires, which won the special jury prize at the Lab Competition in 2019. This exhibition focuses on making visible the environmental, societal, and cultural consequences of our current economic system, which is based on the manipulation of our desires.
Overconsumption, mass tourism, depletion of natural resources, and technological escapism have become the harmful byproducts of a new world order. However, in response to this observation, the exhibition also seeks to offer a counterpoint by exploring the alternative meaning of the word “economy” – the idea of moderation aimed at considering desire as a new, renewable, and creative energy for envisioning a desirable future.

Visual Arts
The Forms and Colors visual arts workshop will echo the thematic retrospective The Buzz during the 2025 festival, through an exhibition titled Short on Sound. Just as sound has the power to awaken emotions, different groups of teenagers and adults have translated the sonic and silent universe of cinema into graphic vibrations and rustlings. This exhibition of the language of sounds opens its doors to you at the Maison des Beaumontois.
